Division 4:
4th XI 0 - 3 Motueka Development
Location: Saxton Oval
Goals:
Match MVP: Brad
It wasn’t the result we were hoping for, but there was plenty for the Tahuna 4ths to be proud of in the 4th Division Cup Final against Motueka Development.
Motueka got off to a fast start, finding the back of the net early. From there, however, Tahuna settled into the game and enjoyed the better share of possession for much of the first half. We created some promising opportunities and put together some good passages of play, but unfortunately couldn’t capitalise on our chances and went into the break trailing by a goal.
Motueka struck again early in the second half, putting us under further pressure. With the game still there to be won, we changed our formation to a back three in an effort to push more players forward and put greater pressure on their defence. The change gave us more attacking intent, but it also left us more exposed at the back.
With around 10 minutes remaining, Motueka took advantage of the space and added a third to put the game beyond us. Ultimately, we fell short against a talented and youthful Motueka Development side, but the scoreline doesn’t take away from the effort and commitment shown by the team. Everyone gave everything they had, and reaching a cup final is an achievement this group should be proud of.
A massive thank you to Kev and Gaz from the Masters for stepping in and filling the gaps — we really appreciate you putting your hands up and helping the team when it mattered. And an even bigger thank you to the Tahuna loyal who came along, got behind us and cheered us on from the sideline. Your support throughout the game, and the season, has meant a huge amount to the team.
It wasn’t our day, but we can hold our heads high. Proud of the boys, proud of the effort, and proud to wear the Tahuna shirt. MOTM went to Brad for doing what he does best in defense. The game could have easily been 0-10 without him.
