1st XI 2-5 Suburbs SPL Reserves
Location: Saxton Field
Goals: Viktor Nielson, Danny Hampton
Match MVP: The boys were keen to hit the ground running after some good midweek training sessions and a postponed game the previous week.
The game started well contested, with the Boys from the beach dominating the first 20. They were rewarded for their efforts after IT whipped a wonderful cross to the back stick for Viktor to nod home past the keeper.
The game took a turn when Suburbs were awarded a goal that didn't seem to bounce over the line. The sideline ref gave it a goal and spirits dropped for the away side, feeling hard done by especially to learn the ‘goalscorer’ himself claimed it didn't cross the line. Not long after the Suburbs striker pounced on a backpass to take the lead. Yet again the boys felt hard done by after a class challenge by Joseph Walton on the edge of the box was given as a foul…. The home team dispatched the ball over the wall and into the side of the net. One more goal for the home side saw the boys 4-1 down at oranges with a lot of work to do.
The second half went better for TFC, challenging for every ball and creating some good play in the middle of the park. We grabbed a goal back through striker Danny Hampton, after taking the ball down from a free kick and dinking it over the keeper from close to the halfway line - a very well taken finish. Closing in on the end of the game the home side were awarded a penalty after a shoulder to shoulder challenge. Another call which left a pretty sour taste in the mouth. The Suburbs striker grabbed his second of the game after sending Joe the wrong way, and smashing it down the middle.
5-2 the final score, a very disheartening game to be apart of. To make things worse, half the team have caught Covid, leading into this weekends Chatam Cup round against FC Nelson. Match Report by Joe Robertson
2nd XI 2-2 Suburbs FC Colts
Location: Saxton Field
Goals: Daniel Smith, Pedro Ivo
Match MVP: Pedro Ivo
Tahuna FC's 2nd XI had to settle for a 2-2 draw against Nelson Suburbs Colts in a hard-fought encounter at Saxtons Fields on Saturday.
The first half was a tight, cagey affair with chances at both ends. Suburbs spurned a couple of excellent one-on-one opportunities, with a great chance put wide and another forcing a good stop by the keeper. They also went close with a long range shot that shaved the top of the bar. Tahuna probably shaded the half, having the better chances, forcing the Suburbs keeper into a few good stops and along with some long-range efforts just off target. Petchy and Til working well to control things in midfield for Tahuna, and Sam and Gary marshaling a solid defensive line.
The second half sparked into life almost immediately as Tahuna were punished for some lazy marking. A brilliant through ball found ex-Tahuna player Tim Mogolowski, who bundled the ball past Will and over the line via an unfortunate deflection off defender Harry. Tahuna responded well and started to take control. Pedro went on a mazy run down the byline and his cross/shot was turned in at the back post by Dan to level the scores. Tahuna then took the lead when Pedro capitalized on a deflected pass to cheekily chip the keeper from almost the halfway line.
It looked like Tahuna would see out the win, but they conceded a sloppy free kick on the edge of the box. The set piece was driven into the danger area and finished at the back post by the onrushing Suburbs striker to make it 2-2 with just minutes remaining.
Suburbs had a great chance to steal all three points with the last kick of the game, but blazed over with the goal gaping.
A 2-2 draw was probably a fair result in an entertaining contest. Tahuna will be pleased with large periods of their buildup play, but disappointed to once again surrender a lead so late on. Man of the Match: Pedro Ivo. Capped his performance with a brilliant chipped goal. Match report by Will Murphy.
3rd XI 5-2 Motueka 2nd XI
Location: Memorial Park
Goals: Luca, Diego, Sayha 2, Dong
Match MVP: Tom Dunn The weather gods had put on another screamer for Saturday. The 3rds were donning the fiery pink kit and were looking to kick off with 2 subs and 1 enroute. Couldn’t ask for a better start until Kez hurt his ankle in the warmup… Regardless, he braved on and started on the kickoff to last about all of 4 minutes into the game before making the wise decision to come off and not do any more damage.
Down to 1 sub with 1 still enroute, the 3rds pressed on with Captain Sobi stepping into the backline. Tahuna was pressing well, albeit very quiet and almost asleep at the wheel for the first 15. Taking solace in our ignorant dominance, Mot capitalised and counter attacked hard, splitting our midfield and backline to have more numbers in the goal box than Keeper Tom had hands… Some may say he was hard Dunn by. 1-0 with Motueka taking the early lead.
This changed the tune of our team, who had been rudely awakened into life. The forwards started to fire into life and started to send shots towards the goal. Some close misses until Luca evened the score card with a belter. Tahuna turned up and keep the foot on the throttle with Sayha and Diego punching through their shots to get their names on the score sheet before half time. 1-3, Tahuna up.
The half time talk was about maintaining our formation, jockeying from our defenders instead of rushing in and not being afraid of having a shot instead of passing it around in their goal box. We were the better team, and the confidence was coming. This was our game to loose, all we had to do was play smart footy.
The 2nd half kicks off and we continue where we left off. The cracks in Mot’s armour took a while to appear, but Tom sent a screaming kick from goal into the sun with Sayha able to collect it deep into Mot’s half and put it home. 1-4 to Tahuna. A momentary lapse in concentration resulted in some unnecessary pressure which seen a pass go across our goal box, straight into Mot’s feet and pelted home to the back of the net. 2-4 to Tahuna.
This light up Mot and they started to play more in our half for the remainder of the game. LB Josh put up some bobby dazzler defenses, keeping several look ins away by taking some clean sliding tackles in our box. Despite Mot’s best efforts, they couldn’t stop the final counterattack from our team, which saw Dong put a blinder away to seal the game 2-5 to Tahuna.
Thanks to Mot for providing a quality ref from their side. They played in a very sportsmanship way, and it was a pleasure to face off against them.
Our Man of the Match was Tom Dunn, who provided relentless comms and leadership, whilst closing most of the looks that Mot had. He’s a Keeper.

Location: Tahunanui S1

It was a beautiful setting for a great game against the Motueka angels and after Tahuna's last week's win they were pumped.
The passing started strong and there were great attempts at goal but unfortunately the ball couldn't find the net. After words of encouragement ' it Will come ' from the cheerleaders and supporters it didn't take too long for the ball to find the net and the first goal went in, followed by another and another.
With good passing and great footwork, they just kept on going in. With a tough back line and great goal keeping the ball was kept in Motueka's half testing the opponents' defenses.
Great performances from all the girls and a stunning finish of 14-0. With special shouts out to the goal scorers Sophie, Ruby(well on her way to Golden boot), Miho, Sayaka & Bailey. Great attack, great defense and an all-round good game.

TFC Masters 3-3 Mapua Masters
Location: Tahunanui S1
Goals: Matt 2, Ed,
Match MVP: Matt Rodgers
Good game for the punters, lots of goals, pretty physical. We opened the scoring with a free kick routine we worked at training. Daz put it in the corner, Patty put in the cross (they both get an assist), and Matt came in on the far post to nod it home.
Like last week we had it over them for the first 15/20 but couldn't convert the chances. We played some good passing football, but they scored and made it 1-1. We got a penalty late in the half which Ed put away to finish the half 2-1.
We kicked into the second half and Matt got through their defense and knocked it over their keeper who was way off his line into the open goal....3-1. Then we started breaking, and we had to swap players........and due to the physicality of the game we were pretty knackered.
Yeah from 3-1 to 3-3, at 3-2 we were hanging in there, despite coughing up the ball to their press. But to drop 2 points to a cross that went in....and the last kick of the game......sucks. Still undefeated tho, and only our 3rd game together, so we're still warming up as a team.
