2nd XI - FC Nelson NMIT
Location: Neale Park
Goals: Dan Smith (2), Austen McCowan
Match MVP: Dan Smith
Tahuna’s 2nd XI wrapped up their league campaign with a convincing 3-0 victory over NMIT at Neale Park. A few reinforcements from the first team were drafted in to bolster our injury-hit squad, giving us a much-needed boost. Fired up after some rousing pre-match speeches in the clubrooms (aka The Sprig), the team was eager to get started.
From the kickoff, it was clear that Tahuna were in control. Their crisp passing and energetic pressing caused NMIT all sorts of problems. Multiple chances came and went, but it wasn’t until midway through the first half that the deadlock was broken. A neat ball out to the right found Dan, who unleashed an absolute belter of a shot into the roof of the net, leaving the keeper with no chance. Despite dominating possession, Tahuna couldn’t add to their lead before halftime. The only negatives were some missed chances and a head knock which forced Ash off early.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with Tahuna camped in NMIT’s half. The defence was solid, Petchy was pulling the strings in midfield, and the forwards were causing havoc. Their persistence in front of goal was finally rewarded when Dan grabbed his second of the game, chasing in a rebound after the keeper saved Austen's effort. Tahuna continued to press for a third. Their efforts were finally rewarded when Austen, who had been a thorn in NMIT’s side all game, slotted home with the composure of a seasoned marksman to cap off a slick counter-attack.
The final whistle blew, and the Tahuna boys were ecstatic. A 3-0 win and a third-place finish? Not bad for a team that was supposed to be struggling this season. Dan was the standout performer and was deservedly named man of the match.
Can’t wait for next season. Up, Up Tahuna!

3rd XI 2-0 Richmond Bogans
Location: Tahunanui S1
Goals: Sayha, Binh
Match MVP: Josh Winter
In what was a crunch game in the battle for safety in the 3rd Division Tahuna 3rds took on Richmond Bogans at Tahunanui S1 this past weekend, And what a game it was!!!
Tahuna lined up in a 4-2-3-1 formation to utilize the attacking ability that they possessed. No sooner had the whistle for kick off gone that Tahuna were forced into an emergency substitution about 10mins in when Diego pulled up with a suspected broken toe inflicted by the Bogans CB. Sayha dropping in from LW to go ST with Mateo coming into LW. Some crunch tackles started flying in from both sides as both teams did not want to give the other an inch. Matty Knight at RB giving the Bogans LW a real tough task as he wouldn't let him through at all. Owain John was released down the wing by a beautiful pass by Sobi, with the former coming close but saved by the keeper.
Then not long after, Mateo received the ball from Josh Hindrup and got up into the Bogans half, seeing the run of Sayha he put through a neat ball into his path with Sayha rounding the keeper and sending it straight into the bottom left of the goal.
Tahuna 1 Bogans 0
Tahuna lined up ready to go again. Bogans then managed to get a through ball over the Tahuna back line, the on rushing Tom Dunn then collided with Stu and the Bogans ST. Ref saw a foul against the Bogans ST (Don't know how). The freekick was then sent straight into Tom's arms.
End to end stuff in the first 20mins. Then Sobi was taken out by the Bogans winger and while on the ground, the winger said something to Sobi. Sobui lept up to try and throttle the Bogans player with the ref showing an immediate red card to Sobi. 20mins in and Tahuna down to 10 men. This didn't deter Tahuna one bit as the boys kept possession and had multiple chances for the rest of the half. The backline of Josh, Casemiro, Stu and Matty kept Bogans shots to a bare minimum.
Half time and Tahuna still 1 nil up and showing absolute class with 10 men.
Second half started pretty much the same as the end of the first half with Tahuna passing the ball around and making Bogans work for it, you couldn't tell Tahuna were a man down, such was the work put in by the boys.
Multiple shots from Dong, Owain and Sayha could have put the boys up by 4 or 5. Wasn't until midway through the second half that Binh unleashed a trademark bazooka from 25 yards out to mug the keeper completely off by putting it straight through the keeper's hands!!
2-0 Tahuna and the confidence was flowing from the homeside.
Then the teams were level when Josh Hindrup sat down the Bogans RB with a massive tackle. The Bogans player then jumped on top of Josh and held the lad down, there was talk of punches but the ref didn't see any thrown. A straight red card to the Bogans player. Then the Bogans LB decided to get involved and was shown a yellow for dissent. Not long after the same Bogans LB should have been shown a second yellow for deciding to take out one of Han's testicles! A squirt of water and Han was back on his feet 1 testicle down...
Tahuna then had a few more chances with Owain through on goal and sending it wide. Josh Hindrup should have buried one as well but managed to send it flying out for a goalkick from 6 yards out (video available on request). Then it was Dong's turn to miss a sitter with the lad sending it over the bar after chipping the keeper.
Final score Tahuna 2 Bogans 0.
That win guarantees Tahuna playing 3rd division next season. Tahuna's next game is away to Motueka. A win for Tahuna here will relegate Motueka to the 4th division....

TFC Breakers 0-1 Suburbs Swans

Goals: Sayaka
Match MVP: Sophie Mathews
Wow! What a game, from physical encounters, multiple attacks on each other goals, bodies being put on the line, through to the famous ‘F bomb” from Rebecca, 22 minutes into the second half.
Regardless of the score or the differing views on Sayaka’s disallowed goal, the game was a great way to end the formal competition for us. The ladies showed the professionalism and maturity to remain focused on the task at hand and remained strong through to the last minute of the game.
The game was a tough encounter from both side resulting in many a player becoming victim to the physicality of the tackles. Arin was instrumental in keeping the Swans at 1 point for the game and Sophie earned herself MVP for her covering of the field and relentless one on one tackles against the tallest player in the Swan’s.
I would like to thank you all for the commitment and dedication you have shown me to attend trainings and matches. Your smiles on the field and post games are the only reward I need for coaching you all. You have been a great team and to see you all bond over the last 5 months is a testament to your own commitment and support for each other. I look forward next year, to ensure we continue to build on the strength and camaraderie you have shown this year.
2025 will be our season
Thank you all for a wonderful season

TFC Masters 1-1 Richmond Masters
Location: Tahunanui S2
Goals: Matt
Match MVP: Luke
So first of all that should have been 2-1, but for the most creative use of the offside rule. As I saw it Luke was offside but then moved back onside before the ball was played, therefore making him onside.
So but for better line decisions we won that. But we didn't and that was because of a lack of consistent play. We had patches of brilliant play moving the ball up field. But for too much of the play we passed the ball to them or ran into dead ends.
So it's back to being cool on the ball and listening to calls from supporting players. That's where we went wrong, we should have rolled them 3 or 4 - 1 but we didn't keep hold of the ball and that gave them confidence to bring their game.
The game, What a fantastic start, we pressed and got into them from the whistle and around 5 mins in Matt finished of an attack to stick it in the bottom corner 1-0 boooyah. But they got back at us later in the half and equalized. A most unfortunate goal....goal mouth scuffle after Ollie saves it falls to Zane who tried to hoof it away only to hit Ollie square in the noodle to bounce back into our net 1 - 1.
Apart from that the only other incident was Luke being given offside, the rest was mostly scrappy. We did the 4-5-1 thing again and I don't think it worked. We didn't get behind them in wide positions so it was mostly Gaz trying to batter his way through.
We are way better than this so chin up and lets try to focus on short accurate passes, owning the ball and moving up the pitch as a team. Man of the match Luke, hard work in the middle of the pitch
