TFC Breakers 6-0 Motueka Angels

Location: Motueka

Goals: Sophie x3, Emily x2, Hazel

Match MVP: Emily

This week saw us take on the motueka Angel's for the second time, previously beating them by quite a margin. Noone was feeling complacent, the Angels proving to be strong opponents, putting our defensive line under pressure many times.

Missing our resident GK Arin to other sporting commitments, Hannah stepped into GK for the game, making a couple of great saves, keeping the Breakers game sheet clean.

The game started off scappy, but as the girls found their groove, impressive passing and footwork saw Ruby set up for the Breakers first goal for the first of Sophie's hat trick in the 19th min. Keeping up our attack, Sophie found the back of the net, scoring her second goal 9 mins later, taking the score to 2-0 @ half time.

Second half- again saw a bit of jostling as subs were finding their feet. 5 mins in, Hazel took charge of the ball, pipping the goalie and sending it in for her second goal of the season (a great way to end your season Hazel!)

The angels stepped up their attack, setting up some nice chances to get onto the scoreboard, but our midfield and back lines shut down their playing, working the ball back up to our strikers. EJ found the net in the 64th min with a powerful shot, and Sophie, looking for her hat trick was rewarded with 10mins to go.

Hungry for a goal, Michelle on the left wing ran the ball up the line, not quite getting the goal but created the opportunity for EJ to smash the ball from deep in the left corner of the pitch, bending it into the net with 30seconds to go.

With Coach Cris away and me deferring from the OG game plan, the team adapted well to the positional changes, keeping my coaching win rate at 100% (and my F-Bomb rate at 0%) We look forward to having you back next week Cris! Match report by Rebecca.

TFC Masters 2-5 FC Nelson Masters

Location: Victory Square

Goals: Gaz x2

Match MVP: Gaz

The good bits, I had my hernia done and am on some nice painkillers and Gaz scored 2 crackers. The rest was mostly piss poor. I think we let them into our heads pretty early in the game, especially after they got their first. I think a huddle on pitch and a captain tellin us what he wants would have given us a bit of focus.

We could barely string 3 passes together, and we weren't trying to get the ball back when we lost it. Obviously we didn't do that all game but we did for too much of that first 20 mins, that's why they went 3-0 up. I thought the 4/5/1` formation was a good tactic, but we didn't execute it.

With 5 in the mid and them keeping 3 or 4 at the back we should have over run their midfield. There should always have been a fee man to pass to. I think we need a few white board sessions about how these formations work and what they look like in transition.

To be fair they pressed us hard and did use the long ball over the top, but we didn't press their defensive line so they had time to play that ball. We do well against teams that don't press but struggle with those that do. I think more game time at practice to perfect the drills in real time would help. But most of all we need to get our headspace right and the above will help. When we do, our passes are timely and accurate, we own the ball and create pressure on them and feed our strikers and we have fun. So lets get back there.

Awww yeah the actual game....Like I said first 20 we shipped 3 goals. We got back into it toward the end of the half and pulled one back with a nice shot from Gaz. Went in at half time 3-1....not so bad. We started the second half a bit 50/50 and we conceded another and we lost the momentum, Gaz pegged another one back with about 15 to go but they scored again to keep their 3 goal cushion and that was that.

Man of the match Gaz, hard work up front
