Tahuna Breakers 4-1 Richmond Swans
Location: Jubilee Park S3
Goals: Bailey, Jes, Alysha, Ruby
Match MVP: Jesikah Franke
Sunday afternoon saw the Tahuna Breakers take to the field at Jubilee Park to face long-time rivals, the Richmond Swans. With no substitutes available and only 11 players able to play after Friday’s match against Wakefield, the Breakers stepped up to the challenge with grit and determination. Conditions were tough, with a biting crosswind sweeping across the pitch.
The team welcomed newcomer Alysha, stepping in just days after farewelling Liv on Friday. From the first whistle, both sides brought intensity, with the Swans applying pressure early through aggressive forward play and strong tackles.
Despite this, the Breakers struck first. Sophie broke down the right wing and delivered a pinpoint pass to Bailey, who calmly chipped the ball over the keeper to open the scoring. The Swans responded with relentless attacking phases, but the Breakers’ defensive line—Rebecca, Michelle, Jenna, and Marijke—stood resolute, forming a solid wall that proved too much for the Swans to break through.
Jesikah, showing incredible resilience after a demanding weekend of sport, linked up well with Ruby and debutant Alysha. Together, they sliced through the Swans’ defense to set up Jesikah for the Breakers’ second goal, taking the score to 2-0 to the Breakers by halftime.
The Swans came out firing in the second half and pulled one back with a well-taken goal. But the Breakers didn’t let their heads drop. Alysha, on debut, made her mark by sprinting down the left wing and lofting a brilliant cross over the advancing goalkeeper to restore the two-goal cushion.
Ruby’s tireless effort was rewarded when she capped off the scoring. After a powerful run down the right, she chipped past the keeper, collected the ball again, and calmly slotted it into the net—securing a 4–1 victory for the Breakers.
This performance ranks among the finest from the Breakers. Despite having no substitutions, playing their second game in as many days, and facing a determined opponent in cold, blustery conditions, the team showed exceptional spirit, discipline, and unity.
Jesikah was awarded player of the day after playing Friday’s match and two netball games on Saturday, Jesikah still gave everything on Sunday—showcasing outstanding commitment, resilience, and performance.
Rest and recovery for the team now, before we face the Richmond Foxes this coming weekend.
